new battery?

    hey people hoping you can help me..
    have a compaq evo d500 (slim horizontal desktop (d5s) ) from which i removed the battery and replaced all while the power was unplugged and now having no joy with,
    it does flash the initial compac screen with the f10/setup f12/......, but after that will go blank and remain that way. pressing f10 or f12 makes no difference either. any ideas what i can do to get this machine up and running again would be great thanks all
