Power up problem

    Hi
    I recently bought a acer travelmate 2310, and ran into a problem, it was the demo model at the source, and has been fine but tonight i went to load up and nothing happened i assumed the battery was dead so i plugged it in, and the light on the front is on amber saying that it is charging but it still wont turn on, does a dead battery prevent it from turning on even when it is plugged in ?
